Mobile expense control and management solutions

The consumerization of IT and enterprise mobility has forced business organizations to allow the use of BYOD and corporate-owned mobile devices at the workplace. As a result, businesses need to enhance their mobile device management portfolio with capabilities that allow better tracking and management of expenses while maximizing the technology potential of mobile devices. To address these concerns, Codeproof provides a range of monitoring and reporting features along with the ability to enforce specific policies to control phone call and SMS expenses.

Data Usage Monitoring

The Codeproof platform offers data usage monitoring tools to IT Administrators. An IT Administrator can specify the monitoring schedule and data usage size in the mobile policy manager. If the data usage goes above the specified limit within a month, users and/or administrators then receive alerts periodically.

Data Usage Reporting

Cellular mobile policy includes the ability to disable data roaming and tethering, as well as limiting number of phone calls and SMS messages allowed to ensure real-time cost control.

Mobile Expense Control Policies

Our mobile policies include the ability to disable data roaming, tethering and hotspots, blocking calls and SMS’s to ensure real-time cost control.

Mobile expense control

Why teams use Mobile Expense Management (MEM)

Mobile expense management (MEM) - sometimes called telecom expense management (TEM) - reduces bill shock and runaway data costs across corporate and BYOD fleets. Codeproof MEM is built directly into the MDM agent, so policy enforcement and reporting share one pane of glass with your device management.

International roaming control

Disable data roaming when devices leave a defined country or region. Eliminate surprise bills from international travel, especially for sales, executives, and field service teams.

Tethering and hotspot policy

Restrict tethering and personal hotspot usage to approved scenarios. Allow Wi-Fi hotspot only on company-approved Wi-Fi, or disable it entirely on plans without hotspot allowance.

Fleet and field operations

Drivers, technicians, and last-mile delivery teams burn data fast. Set per-device or per-group data caps and get alerts when usage approaches the limit.

Education and hotspot programs

School districts running Smart Mobile Hotspot programs use MEM to enforce per-student data caps and prevent off-policy streaming.

Voice and SMS cost control

Block international calls and premium-SMS shortcodes. Combine with content filtering to prevent spam-app installations.

Department charge-back

Per-device, per-user, and per-group data usage reports support internal charge-back, vendor invoice reconciliation, and finance audits.

Codeproof MEM capabilities

  • Per-device and per-group data caps with automated alerts at configurable thresholds (e.g., 50%, 80%, 100%)
  • Roaming restrictions tied to country or geofenced regions
  • Tethering and hotspot policy - allow, restrict, or disable
  • Call and SMS controls - block international, premium, or specific numbers
  • App-level data attribution - identify which apps drive the most cellular usage
  • Real-time alerts to users and IT when usage breaches limits
  • Historical reporting with CSV exports for finance and audit
  • Cross-carrier: works across T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and international carriers
  • BYOD-friendly: policies apply only to corporate apps and data within the work profile, respecting employee privacy on personal apps

Mobile Expense Management FAQs

How does Codeproof measure data usage?
The Codeproof MDM agent reads OS-level cellular usage counters on Android and iOS. Reporting is per device and per app, with daily, weekly, and monthly aggregation.
Can MEM see personal data usage on BYOD?
No. On BYOD devices in an Android work profile or with iOS User Enrollment, Codeproof only sees usage attributed to managed work apps. Personal app data usage stays private to the user.
What happens when a device hits its data cap?
You can configure the response: warning alert to user, additional alert to admin, automatic restriction on background data, or full mobile data disable until the next billing cycle.
Does MEM work with carrier billing systems?
Codeproof MEM measures on-device usage independently of carrier billing. You can use carrier APIs or invoice imports for reconciliation, or rely on device-side reporting alone.
