Smart Mobile Hotspot

Codeproof offers Smart Mobile Hotspot, which turns Android mobile devices into dedicated, secure, and centrally managed WiFi hotspots. It provides home internet access for students and teachers studying and working from home, secure and reliable internet access when dealing with untrustworthy networks or public WiFi. Further, it provides better security than dedicated hotspot devices, and additional connectivity for facilities with overtaxed existing bandwidth (e.g. hospitals, schools).

Smart Mobile Hotspot is available for customers of networks including Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T.

Who uses Smart Mobile Hotspot

Smart Mobile Hotspot turns an Android phone into a centrally managed Wi-Fi access point - locked to approved apps, with content filtering, GPS tracking, and per-device data caps. The phone's primary role is to provide internet to the connected device (typically a student laptop or tablet) while staying secure.

K-12 home-internet programs

Bridge the digital divide for students without reliable home Wi-Fi. Hotspot devices connect to district laptops with CIPA-aligned content filtering applied at the network and device levels.

Remote workforce backup connectivity

Provide a managed cellular backup for employees in flaky-WiFi locations or during outages. Per-employee data caps prevent runaway bills.

Field crews & mobile offices

Construction sites, remote inspections, and pop-up retail use managed hotspot phones to connect line-of-business apps without trusting public Wi-Fi.

Emergency response & events

Quick-deploy managed Wi-Fi for disaster response, festivals, sports events, and short-term campus setups.

Smart Mobile Hotspot FAQs

How is this different from just enabling personal hotspot on a phone?
A personal hotspot is unmanaged - users can connect any device, use unlimited data, install any app on the phone itself, and disable the hotspot. Smart Mobile Hotspot locks the phone to dedicated hotspot duty, applies content filtering, caps data, tracks GPS, and prevents users from changing settings.
Does this work with any carrier?
Yes, on any US or international carrier that allows phone hotspot use on the device's data plan. Many K-12 programs use carrier-bundled SIMs from T-Mobile, Verizon, or AT&T for predictable billing.
Is content filtering CIPA-compliant?
Yes. Codeproof Mobile Content Filter integrated with Smart Mobile Hotspot is designed to meet CIPA requirements for E-Rate-funded districts.
What happens when a student exceeds their data cap?
You can configure the response: warn the user, alert the admin, throttle background data, or fully disable hotspot until the next billing cycle. Most districts use a tiered alert + throttle approach.
Can I track lost hotspot phones?
Yes. Always-on GPS tracking, historical location reports, and instant remote lock / wipe protect devices and student data.
